YOUNG Bexleyheath golfer Alfie Plant has been brushing all competition aside on the Kent circuit.

Having already claimed the Kent county cup, with six under par, and the under-16 county cup, Plant added to his collection last week by lifting the Royal Cinque ports junior open and the Kent county junior championships.

In the junior open, he was up against 60 players but he played the hardest back nine on the south coast one under par to beat last year's Kent order of merit winner and scratch golfer Charlie Wilson.

The following day saw Plant in action at Princes GC for the county junior championships, a 36-hole event which attracted 70 of Kent's best young golfers.

After 18 holes Plant had shot a 73 one over par and was tied for first place with four other players.

He started off well after lunch and was level par for the first nine holes before dropping a shot on the 10th.

Plant then birdied the 11th, dropped a shot on 12th, birdied the 13th and then had pars all the way to the 17th.

On the 18th tee Plant knew he was in with a chance and hit a 323 yard drive down the last, which left him 100 yards to the pin.

He hit his second shot to within 15 feet and sunk the third for a birdie three and finished one under par 71 for 18 holes and level par for 36 holes to win by two shots.

Afterwards, Plant dedicated the victory to his friend Geoffrey Dwyer, who passed away on July 10.
