CAMBRIDGE HARRIERS' Dean Lacy had to be content with second place in the Elite race at the Medway Mile on Sunday.
Closely following the eventual winner Andy Rayner for most of the distance, he was unable to match Andy's sprint in the last 400m but still ran an excellent time of 4 mins 10.62 secs.
However, Clare Elms went one better by being 1st Lady home in 4 mins 43.39secs.
On a scorching hot day, Clare had 'warmed up' for the Elite race by running the Masters race just 20 minutes beforehand, again finishing 1st lady in 5 mins 14.04 secs.
Also in the Masters race, Steve Smythe was 7th in 5 mins 10.90 secs, running conservatively to protect a calf injury, and Russell Williams finished 16th in 5 mins 46.54 sec.
Meanwhile, the club's senior women's team competed in the Southern Women's League on Saturday and finished a gallant third behind strong teams from Havering and Enfield and Haringey.
Kate Laidlow and Holly Ware got the team off to a good start winning both the A and B string 400 hurdles.
Charlotte Lucas added points with second places in the Discus and Javelin, the latter with a new pb of over 26 metres.
Anesa Wanogho continues to chase the 11m mark in the Shot winning the event with 10.79 on this occasion.
Shackerira Thomas picked up good points with second places in the b string 200, shot putt and hammer.
Andrea Pickup performed very strongly to win the 1500m and also the 3000m too.
