Kent Ravens 16-20 Greenwich University
DESPITE beingh defeated by Greenwich University, this stern test proved a positive step for five Kent Ravens first team players coming back from injury as the club looks forward to the start of the play-off campaign in two weeks.
Kent raced into an early lead when experience seemed to shine through as loose forward Joe Oxford ran through the Greenwich defence to score the first points of the match.
But it was a bad injury to Oxford two minutes later which swung the momentum the other way.
Oxford went down awkwardly in a heavy tackle, breaking and dislocating his ankle, and the game re-started with Greenwich University clearly more determined to win.
They racked up 14 points before half-time as the to make the interval score 14-4.
It was Greenwich who continued on the front foot from the restart as they added to their tally with a controversial try in the corner and a conversion in the early minutes of the second period.
This seemed to bring the Ravens out of their shell and they started to use their powerful forward pack to full advantage.
Andre Karon, coming back from injury, scored a try with Aiden Oakley adding the two points.
Oliver Lewis and Oakley both came close to scoring, but they were denied by last-gasp tackles from Greenwich's highly impressive back line.
Man of the match Jose Corriera added the try of the night for Kent and Oakley scored Kent Ravens visit seventh-placed South London Storm in the last regular league match of the season and will be boosted by the possible return of up to 10 first team regulars.
