The Leigh Academy Trust XI are bidding to make history next week as Lashings All-Stars make their annual visit to Bexley Cricket Club.
The match will be the 10th consecutive event between the two sides, with a host of legends out to gain revenge on the students following last summer’s shock defeat.
Leigh Academy chased down 268 with seven overs remaining last year and another victory would see them become the first team to record back-to-back wins over Lashings.
Event organiser Kevin Brewer said: “We had a really special win last year and that makes this match even more interesting.
“It’s a great social occasion but the stars still do not like getting beaten.
“Nobody has ever beaten them twice in a row so our challenge is to get back-to-back victories against the great side.”
Led by former England and Surrey spinner Chris Schofield, the All-Stars will have a formidable line-up at their disposal.
South African great Herschelle Gibbs, Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer and West Indian legend Gordon Greenidge are all expected to turn out at Manor Way, while Monty Panesar could also feature.
Brewer hopes his young guns have what it takes to test Lashings.
He said: “This is a transitional year for our team but Kent second XI wicket-keeper Ollie Robinson is our captain and we have Bexley’s overseas batsman Aryan Jain with us.
“Last year was amazing. We don’t want it to be a one-sided battering so hopefully we have another decent game of cricket.
“A lot of people come for the atmosphere and the chance to watch some of their heroes in action but we also want to put on a show.”
A Lashings spokesman added: “We’re really excited for our trip to Bexley. This is one of the stand-out games of our summer and we have some global superstars coming down.
“It’s always a great day against the Leigh Academy and we can’t wait to entertain the crowd with some fast bowling and big hitting.”
Brewer added: “We would like to thank our sponsors, Central Hire and David Mewes Building Services, for making this event possible.”
Tickets are available on the day at Bexley Cricket Club’s Manor Way.
