Blackheath 48 Tynedale 7.
A wide margin of victory thanks to an electric second half display which saw Blackheath score six tries without response, but a result which belies the fact that the hosts found themselves under the cosh for a majority of the first period. Indeed, Tynedale drew first blood as Ben Frankland was driven across for the opening try on 15 minutes, the open-sides’ 14th try of the season, and Blackheath were reduced to 14-men on two occasions as their defence was stretched.
Eventually, however, the shackles were broken, and with Richard Windsor and Mike Canty combining down the left flank for the former to score, and opposite wing Ryan Squires crossing in the right corner, Blackheath led 10-7 at the interval.
The second period saw Blackheath in complete control as Tynedale found no answer to the Club’s pace and penetration behind the scrum.
Inside-centre Joe Crust crossed next to the uprights in the 44th minute and Windsor completed his brace as ball was moved across field from a set-scrum in the right corner.
The best try of the match came from Seb Nagle-Taylor as the open-side took play forward after Club replacement number-eight Ollie Lyons broke away at pace from the back of a scrum on his own twenty-two, and Canty came up into the line from full-back to cross twice in seven minutes.
Squires added a fourth conversion before outside-half Alex Gallagher crossed for the final score in the closing moments.
Next Saturday Blackheath travel to west London to face league leaders Ealing Trailfinders who suffered their first defeat of the season at the weekend at the hands of Coventry. Kick-off at Vallis Way is 3.00 pm.
