Greenwich were crowned London Youth Games female judo champions on Saturday at the National Sports Centre in Crystal Palace.
It means they regained the title they last won in 2012 after having to settle for runners-up spot last year.
Team manager Mick Murphy feels the team were inspired by Olympic silver medallist Gemma Gibbons, someone who he coached as a youngster at the London Youth Games.
Murphy said: “We won before when Gemma Gibbons was in the team and she has inspired a lot of the youngsters.
“She’s been down to see them, and we are her borough, so we are always trying to win for her.
“It’s no good coming here thinking you’re going to win it, you have to come here and really work hard because winning it is a memorable moment.”
Greenwich’s judo players were not the only ones to taste medal success at the weekend.
On Sunday, the male handball team won silver in the finals at the Copper Box Arena, Olympic Park, home of the sport during London 2012.
Greenwich were unbeaten throughout the group phase and then beat Sutton 3-2 to qualify for the finals against Southwark where they fell short, losing 4-0.
