Former amateur champion Tom Woledge from Bean is looking forward to making a big statement next month when he laces the gloves back on for his debut in the UK’s premier boxing league.
The 19-year-old will represent Dartford's Punchout Boxing Academy on July 12 at Alexandra Palace, when he enters the ranks of the televised Queensbury boxing competition to face undefeated Cruiserweight star Ben Vickers in a mouth-watering encounter.
And after watching his opponent from ringside back in February, Woledge is more than confident he’ll wreck Vickers’ chances of getting a shot at the national title.
“I’m really excited about making my debut in the Queensbury Boxing League in London,” explained the Bean fighter.
“From what I’ve seen of the competition, this will be a fantastic experience for me.
“When I was looking at signing up to compete in the show I went to one of the televised events back in February and saw Ben Vickers fight.
“Right there and then I thought he’s somebody I’d love to box and now I’m facing him in my debut, which is great.
“At the moment I’m feeling fit, strong and ready to go.
“I’ve got a great team behind me, so I’m very confident Vickers just won’t be able to handle me and I’ll be winning on July 12.”
Also in action on the Kings of the Palace undercard is Dartford’s John Maloney, who will make his first appearance back in the league since narrowly missing out on beating fellow debutant Danny Anderson back in March.
Maloney, who trains alongside Woledge, will face super middleweight rival Andy Adumoah as he bids to record his first victory in the competition.
