Tanweer Sikandar and Tom Mees each played key roles as leaders Blackheath enjoyed an emphatic 143-run success at Bexley in the Kent Cricket League Premier Division.

Sikandar contributed 106 to his side’s innings of 225-8, while Mees took 5-17 as Bexley were dismissed for just 82.

Hosts Bexley opted to put their opponents into bat first and claimed the first wicket when Matthew Stiddard caught Chris Willetts (16) to put the visitors on 28-1.

That was when Sikandar entered the fray and although there were further casualties as Jahid Ahmed (32), Foysol Ahmed (0), Calum Haggett (4), Charlie-Sid Speller (21) and Warren Lee (9) headed back to the pavilion, Blackheath continued to make steady progress with Sikandar at the crease.

Lee’s exit left the table-toppers on 143-6 but by the time Dipayan Paul (19) was stumped by Stiddard, Blackheath were up to 208-7 as Sikandar’s runs began to pile up.

He was eventually caught by Jason Benn off the delivery of Mehdi Abbas (3-39), becoming his side’s final lost wicket as Blackheath posted a target of 225-8 from their 55 overs.

But Bexley’s hopes of reaching it were all but ended straight away as Kashif Nizami (0), George Wells and Stiddard (3) made swift departures to leave them in serious trouble on just 8-3.

Adeel Malik (28) did his best to put the home side back in the contest before he was caught by Sikandar.

Then came Mees’ devastating spell with the ball to secure the five remaining Bexley wickets as they were bowled out inside 29 overs.

Bromley (163-6) moved up to fourth in the table after a four wicket triumph at Beckenham (159).

Max Hall (49) and David Draper (53) had formed a useful middle order partnership for Beckenham but they both eventually fell victim to Nathan Hill (4-8).

The early loss of opener Calum Basey (2) didn’t dent Bromley’s confidence too much and they were on 74-2 when Daniel Christian (43) was caught and bowled by Jonathan Darke (3-36).

Darke also claimed the scalp of Miguel Barbosa (37) and Nicholas Bluett (3), although there was nothing he or any of the other Beckenham bowlers could do to dislodge Dominic Reed (45no) as Bromley sealed the win inside 42 overs.

Reigning champions Hartley’s (158) disappointing start to the season continued with a seven wicket reverse at Sevenoaks Vine (160-3).

Only Scott McKechnie (40), Dan Stickels (36) and Jack Laraman (20) emerged with any credit from the Hartley batting display as they were dismissed with eight overs remaining.

And it was left to Luke Blackaby (75no) and Oliver Howick (31no) to see Sevenoaks to a simple win in 33 overs.

Bickley Park (168) endured an equally torrid afternoon in their seven wicket hammering at Canterbury (172-3).

When Daniel Magin (18) went LBW off the delivery of Imran Qayyum (3-27) Bickley were on 96-6, figures which rose to 154-8 after a decent batting spell from Michael Ridley (38) and Michael Pym (18).

However, they were only to add another 14 runs before being dismissed with just one ball remaining and Canterbury only lost a trio of wickets on their way to wrapping up the points.
