OLD Colfeians RFC has this morning confirmed former player Tim Tunnicliff will be returning to the club as its first ever director of rugby.

Tunnicliff has a great history with the Lee side, first joining in 1998 and being part of the formidable London One winning team of 2001 and National League Three South team of 2001-2004.

The tight head prop then went onto Blackheath and Esher before becoming a member of the Ealing Trailfinders team which won promotion to the Championship this season.

Tunnicliff’s role as director of rugby encompasses the coaching and performance of the first team, as well as overseeing the broader strategic direction of the club’s on field performance, which includes providing guidance and direction to the junior and mini section coaches.

Last season’s first team coach Phil Greenaway will continue as a member of the coaching team.

Tunnicliff said: “Old Colfeians has an important place in my heart.

“The opportunity to be part of the club again was one I could not turn down.

“From top to bottom this is a great club and I want to make sure that we are as strong on the pitch as we have always been off it.

“My vision is to create an environment where all players will get access to great coaching and we have a senior section that is competitive week in, week out.

“I also want to see a first XV which plays with flair, courage and that famous Colfeian spirit.”

Old Colfeians’ chairman Dick Hussey added: “We’re delighted to welcome Tim back to Old Colfeians.

“This role is a vital one in providing a strong playing and coaching structure throughout the club and Tim not only understands what is required but also has the passion and experience to make it happen.

“We are extremely grateful to Phil Greenaway for all he has done for the first XV and look forward to him working with Tim to provide top level coaching support to our young but talented first team squad.”
