South London & Kent Pool Alliance Winter Premier Division champions Rileys Woolwich have started the Summer season in style by beating Foots Cray Social Club by 3 sets to 0 and 14 frames to 1.
Rileys were just too strong on the night and have shown their intentions for the Elite League this season with a fine all round team performance with only Shaun Shephard coming away with a win for Foots Cray.
O’Connors showed that last season’s poor position was just a blip as they beat Pickwick 2-1 and 10-5.
It could have been a lot worse as O’Connors raced to a 9-0 lead and took the first two sets 5-0 and 4-1 but Pickwick found some form in the final set to win that 4-1 and make the score look a lot more respectable.
The first three frames set the tone for the victors as Jordan O’Connor and James Sheed both broke and dished and Tony Gear cleared after an in off break to win the first of his three frames on the night.
Pickwick captain Paul Slater led the fightback with two wins out of two.
Glenmore Arms A started slowly in their first season in the top division losing the first set 4-1 and the second 3-2 to Bellegrove Social Club A before coming back in the final set to win it 3-2 to make the final score 2-1, 9-6 in Bellegrove’s favour.
Dan Foley had a great night for Bellegrove with three out of three frames while another Dan, Henink was also unbeaten with two wins which included a break and dish that finished with a fine double on the black.
Glenmore’s six frames came from three players, Barry Barham in the first set, Paul Thomas and Alex Thompson in the second set, with Thompson achieving a ‘7-baller’ and all three of them in the final set with Barham matching Thomson’s ‘7-baller’.
In the SLKPA Tier Two East new boys White Hart were taught a bit of a lesson by relegated Royal Oak who won 3-0, 11-4.
White Hart made a creditable start only losing the first set 3-2 but Royal Oak turned it on in the second and third set winning them both 4-1.
John Kinsville won all three of his frames and Arran Duke won both of his frames on his World Rules debut.
It was a close game at New Eltham Social Club where Glenmore Arms II were the visitors and while Glenmore won the game in sets 2-1 New Eltham managed to get the most frames 8-7 so both teams got two points.
Glenmore surprised a few by taking the first two sets 3-2 but New Eltham won the final set 4-1 to set up the frame victory.
Tony Frost was in great form for New Eltham winning all three of his frames and debutant Les Stelling won two of his three frames.
North Heath Social Club put up a creditable performance considering they only had three players against Bellegrove Social Club B.
Bellegrove won the first set 3-2 but all three of North Heath’s players got a win in set two to win the it 3-2 and tie the match 5-5 in frames but Bellegrove finished it off in the final set 4-1 to win the match 2-1 in sets and 9-6 in frames.
Kings Arms got off to a great start in SLKPA Tier Two West with a 3-0, 12-3 victory over new boys Antigallican.
The game was never really in any doubt as Kings Arms won the first set 4-1, the second 5-0 and the final set 3-2 with Neil Shelton winning a frame in each set.
He wasn’t the only unbeaten player as Alan Dolan, Clive Forrest and would you believe Earnest Chin all won two frames.
There was a see saw battle at Beech Tree Nuthouse where they faced Rileys Rebels.
Rebels won the first set 3-2 then Beech Tree reversed that score in the second set but they just couldn’t put it together in the third set which Rebels won 5-0 to win the match 2-1, 10-5.
The backbone of Rebels victory was Declan Kelly and captain Trevor Biggs who both won a frame in each set.
Pickwick Academicals came away with a 2-1, 9-6 win over Rileys Unstoppables but the biggest surprise of the night came with Unstoppables Sam Mossom winning all three of his frames which already surpasses his win tally for the whole of last season.
