WESTCOMBE Park Colts made a successful defence of their National Plate crown with a 15-5 final success over Chippenham Colts on Monday.

Combe’s academy is the first Kent side to win this prestigious trophy and the only side ever to win it in successive seasons.

Harvey Young’s penalty gave Combe an early 10th minute lead but they fell behind to a Greg Palmer try.

Derayo Adetosoye crossed the line on the stroke of half-time before Young converted to give Combe a 10-5 interval advantage.

Angus Wilson added a decisive try eight minutes from time to seal victory and ensure the Orpington side retained the Plate they won 12 months earlier.

Man of the match Alex Tagg said: “It’s been a very tough season but this group of players has been immense and the academy at Combe is getting stronger each season. “It’s such a good feeling to win it twice now, and in my last game for Combe as a junior player.”

Head coach Graham Purdy added: “This has been a remarkable couple of seasons.

“To reach the final twice was amazing and to win both times was beyond anyone’s expectations.”
