Tynedale 62 v Blackheath 22.

Three Tynedale tries in a calamitous opening eleven minutes for Blackheath quickly set the tone for this contest.

Despite a positive start from the visitors, with a line-up featuring no less than nine changes in personnel from the side that succumbed to Macclesfield in their previous outing, the Northumberland side were able to pounce on errors with ruthless efficiency to set up an early advantage that Blackheath were always likely to struggle to overcome.

The Club back-three of Richard Lankshear, Mike Canty and Geoff Griffiths looked to consistently pose a threat from deep, the latter crossing the try-line twice in the second quarter, but each effort was cancelled out by further Tynedale scores, including a second for centre Ben Frankland, to maintain a 19-point lead at the break.

Blackheath needed to respond quickly from the re-start, and a 50th minute Rory Teague penalty gave a smidgeon of hope, but soon the defensive gaps opened up once again.  Tyne wing Hamish Smales completed a hat-trick as the hosts ran riot with a further five tries, a solitary effort on debut from Club back-row Anthony Harrison the only reversal to the one-way traffic.

Next Saturday Blackheath return to home territory to face their oldest adversary, Richmond.  Kick off at Rectory Field is 3.00 pm.
