BROMLEY put in a horror first half show at Cherrywood Road on Saturday as they went down against a mediocre Farnborough side.
But in an improved second half they could not break through, missing yet another penalty in the process.
There was not much to excite the fans of either side in the opening half hour. On seven minutes the home side might have opened the scoring when Bromley’s keeper Joe Welch could only parry Alan Inn’s close range header and Sanchez Ming cleared the loose ball off the line.
A 14th minute long ball out of defence from Marlon Patterson picked out Bromley’s Richard Pacquette, but his shot on the turn was well saved by Craig Bradshaw.
Farnborough gradually had more of the play and deservedly opened the scoring on 34 minutes when a mistake by Liam Harwood led to Nic Ciardini netting at the far post past an exposed Welch.
Two minutes later, and with the Bromley defence all at sea, the hosts doubled their lead when Ciardini was on hand to convert a long cross from the right.
It could have got worse as Phil Page pulled Moses Swaibu out of position before unleashing a powerful shot which Welch did extremely well to push onto the bar at the expense of a corner.
Tony Finn and Aaron Rhule were replaced by Ali Chaaban and Michael Malcolm at the break and Bromley came out with more determination. Patterson and Chaaban combined well on 53 minutes to set up Pacquette, who stumbled as he hit his shot.
Two minutes later Ali Fuseini’s curling shot from Waldren’s corner was headed off the line by Medi Abalimba.
Chaaban’s volley from the edge of the area stung Bradshaw’s hands before the keeper was well beaten one minute later by Waldren’s header but unfortunately for Bromley it was inches wide of the post.
The visitors were handed a lifeline on 61 minutes when they were awarded a penalty after Olly Treacher handled in the box, but Waldren’s spot kick was easily turned away by Bradshaw.
Bromley’s heads appeared to drop and Welch again rescued them as he made a point blank save from Alfred Bosch. Pierre Joseph-Dubois hit the post with his first touch after replacing Hakeem Araba in the 69th minute following good work by Harwood and Pacquette, while a goalmouth scramble saw Chaaban’s effort blocked.
The hosts ended the game strongly and substitute Dave Tarpey was denied by a timely tackle from Swaibu as the rest of the defence stood appealing for offside.
And in time added on another substitute, Serge Makofo, got clear on goal, only for Welch to come quickly off his line to smother the ball at his feet.
