EARLY goals in each half were sufficient for Hayes and Yeading United to record a well deserved victory over Welling United.
Kudus Oyenuga stretched the Welling defence throughout and forced Sam Mott into making a good early save before shooting just wide moments later.
Tobi Joseph set up the opening goal by lifting the ball into the path of former Welling loanee Jerome Anderson, and he made no mistake with a clever lob over Mott’s head.
Tom Cadmore volleyed wide from a poorly defended corner and Jack Obersteller did well to see off Anderson who fed on a good ball from Daniel Wishart’s through ball.
After Joe Healy’s yellow card, Welling’s task became tougher when Obersteller had to be stretchered away having been clattered late as he won a corner.
Healy saw his shot from the half cleared delivery hit Ross Lafayette and bounce away before Barney Williams, on debut, replaced the Wings’ full back.
Sam Cox curled an effort over then Oyenuga saw his shot come back off the post.
Having come close to going two behind, Welling notched a surprise equaliser, courtesy of a clever flick by Lafayette, Lee Clarke pulled a deep cross back to Fraser Franks and his shot was re-directed beyond James Beasant by Welling’s leading scorer.
Williams became the visitor’s second player to be cautioned just before half time.
Oyenuga restored the hosts’ lead within a minute of the re-start when he polished off a fine pull back from Joseph.
Ben Martin made a crucial header away before Lafayette’s header just missed the angle of post and bar from an excellent Franks cross.
Jamie Day, who had replaced Scott Kinch at half time, was booked, somewhat harshly, for a first foul having been on the wrong side of two heavy tackles previously.
Mott was out sharply at the feet of Oyengua before making a good save from Luke Williams.
Clarke smashed a shot over for Welling, then substitute Mark Bentley did likewise for Hayes.
Deep into injury time, Welling had one last chance but Harry Baker just missed the target from a tight angle.
Welling United: Mott, Franks, Obersteller (Williams 21), Healy, Martin, Acheampong, Kinch (Day 45), Clarke, Fairweather-Johnson (Main 53), Lafayette, Baker. Unused substitutes Hughes-Mason. Turner.
