DARTFORD assistant manager Paul Sawyer believes they have a squad brimming with confidence after a successful Bank Holiday weekend.

The Darts had received a baptism of fire in their opening three fixtures losing to Tamworth, Woking and Macclesfield Town before approaching an important two fixtures in 48 hours.

They came through in style with their first two wins after beating Kidderminster Harriers 1-0 at home on Saturday while a valiant display away against Cambridge United on Monday was merited with a late goal and a 2-1 win.

Sawyer said: “In the dressing room after the Macclesfield match we were a bit disappointed because we thought we had two great chances and two half chances.

“We didn’t take those and then we conceded an own goal just after half-time which killed us a bit.

“After all of our first three games we felt that on another day the results could have been different, from then on it was all about keeping that belief.

“The win on Saturday against Kidderminster confirmed the belief in ourselves which was a great boost for Monday’s fixture against Cambridge.”

Nathan Collier, who joined the team in the summer, grabbed the late winner for the Darts at Cambridge.

When asked about his impact or if anyone else would be added to the squad, Burman’s assistant added: “We feel we have got a good squad and we have got a strong bench.”

“If someone like Nathan doesn’t start then we are confident that we can bring him on and he will perform for us.

“We are always looking to strengthen the squad, but we are looking to bring the right people in.

“We don’t feel it is necessary unless the right player with the right personality comes along.”

Saturday sees Dartford playing at home against Alfreton Town who have already conceded 11 this season and offer a different challenge to that of the likes of Cambridge United.

Sawyer explained: “We will do our homework and consider the best line-up for us against their style of play.

“Last weekend we won on Saturday and still changed the team for our game on Monday.

“It’s horses for courses and we will pick the right team for the game against Alfreton this weekend.

“The win against Cambridge has given us a boost in confidence and we will take that with us into the game on Saturday.”

The Darts lie in mid-table after a brilliant weekend and will be looking to pick up points against Alfreton before they play current league leaders Newport County at Princes Park on Tuesday.
