BROMLEY are still looking for their first victory of the season after drawing with Kent rivals Tonbridge Angels at Hayes Lane on Bank Holiday Monday.
But it should have been a victory as the home side dictated play for the most part.
However, it was the visitors who nearly opened the scoring with their first attack on three minutes when George Purcell hit the post after being put through on goal by Frannie Collin.
Bromley responded two minutes later when Albert Jarrett, back in the side following suspension, saw his shot blocked by the keeper before Richard Pacquette’s follow up was hacked off the line.
The home side fell behind in the eighth minute when Chris Piper’s shot was well saved by Joe Welch, but the rebound fell to Mikel Suarez who slotted home from six yards.
Bromley had the better of the exchanges for the remainder of the half with Michael Malcolm, Danny Waldren and Jarrett all going close.
As the opening period drew to a close, Waldren’s header was pushed around the post and Pacquette’s cushioned header scraped the bar, both from Tony Finn’s cross.
The early stages of the second half was poor fare for the large crowd of 805, but the turning point came in the 73rd minute when Tonbridge were reduced to 10-men. Piper was sent off for two bookable offences, his second bringing down Hakeen Araba in full flight.
A few minutes later Moses Swaibu saw his header cleared off the line by Henry Muggeridge as Bromley pressed forward looking for an equaliser.
It finally came with four minutes remaining when Ali Fuseini’s long crossfield pass picked out Ali Chaaban, who squared across goal for Araba to rifle home for his first goal of the season.
With the bit now between their teeth, Chaaban’s shot was palmed away and Swaibu’s strike was saved at point blank range.
In the dying seconds Araba touched Pacquette’s cross agonisingly over the bar but there was to be no breakthrough and the Lillywhites were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.
