EBBSFLEET United were held to a 1-1 draw by Wrexham after a dramatic conclusion to Saturday's encounter at Stonebridge Road.

Moses Ashikodi had glorious a chance to secure all three points for the Fleet from the penalty spot but squandered his golden opportunity.

On a very hot day in north Kent, Fleet started well and looked comfortable in possession early on.

Ashikodi had a good chance after 10 minutes but dragged his effort wide from 16 yards, while Tom Phipp followed suit just a minute later but his 25 yard strike swerved wide.

It took until midway through the first half for Wrexham to create their first real opportunity when Jay Harris fed Johnny Hunt, but he missed the goal altogether from just inside the box.

Ebbsfleet thought they had taken the lead five minutes before half-time but Ashikodi’s strike was flagged offside.

This effort was followed up by another shot from Phipp, whose glancing header beat the keeper but just drifted wide.

The second half was a more open affair and the away side grabbed the lead shortly after the restart.

Captain Dean Keates split the defence with his pass and Hunt latched onto it and fired into the top corner from the left side of the goal.

On the hour mark Phipp showed his attacking prowess yet again but he delivered a poor finish by firing straight at the keeper from 10 yards.

Ebbsfleet’s were finally rewarded when Declan Walker’s back header to the keeper was spilt by Joslain Mayebi under pressure from Ashikodi.

The ball fell to Liam Enver-Marum who lifted it over the grounded Mayebi in the 70th minute.

Wrexham tried to restore their advantage but their attacks were constantly broken down by the home side’s back four.

Ebbsfleet’s strong second half performance looked likely to produce all three points when they were awarded a penalty with less than three minutes remaining.

Wrexham defender Martin Riley was adjudged to have handled in the box and Ashikodi stepped up to take the spot kick, only for Mayebi to guess the right way and deny the Fleet striker all the glory.
