MANAGER Liam Daish is hoping to see his fair share of the money coming Ebbsfleet United’s way following the recent sale of Michael Bostwick from Stevenage to Peterborough.
Bostwick joined Stevenage from the Fleet in 2008 but his move to London Road earlier this month for an undisclosed fee has produced a welcome cash bonus for the Stonebridge Road club, one which Daish described as “substantial”.
And the Fleet chief has his fingers crossed a similar sell-on windfall could come his way should Michael West thrive at Crewe following his summer departure to Gresty Road.
He said: “I might be in a bit of a queue for the money, but hopefully it will be split as fairly as possible.
“There’s hopefully another pay-day along the line if West does well at Crewe.”
Following his side’s 3-2 pre-season friendly loss against a Reading XI last night, Daish said he is starting to form ideas over certain trialists.
He added: “There are a few decisions to make and some have already been made.
“I’ve got a bit of food for thought, but it’s only our second game into pre-season and our third week into training.
“The players have got a say in whether or not they sign for the club, but of course I’d like to push things on with certain players.”
Daish revealed he was satisfied with the way pre-season was progressing so far.
He explained: “It’s only early, but by the time we kick off we’d have had a good preparation.
“I’m enthusiastic for the season again.
“That’s down to the players and the players I might be getting into the club.
“There’s a nucleus of players there.
“I’ve got some good lads and we’ll get stronger and stronger as the sessions go by.”
Moses Ashikodi and Tom Phipp scored for the Fleet in last night’s meeting with the Royals and the boss was relatively pleased with the performance overall.
Daish said: “We got off to a slow start, which is understandable against the future of Reading FC, but we held our own and got stronger in the second half.
“There were some good performances which caused Reading problems.”
After including youth team products in both of his match squads so far this pre-season, Daish also explained how he hoped some of the club’s youngsters would be able to play a role during the forthcoming campaign.
“Hopefully Lanre Azeez and Adam Williams will feature and provide competition for first team places,” he said.
Due to the departure of a number of key players, the manager is faced with the task of rebuilding a large part of the squad over pre-season.
However, he says this is not helped by the fact the club is part-time, meaning it takes a longer time to judge the quality of some trialists.
“I’m trying to condense everything and get through a lot of players,” said Daish.
“I need to judge them and make decisions, which isn’t easy.
“It’s looking a lot better than how it did a month ago, though, so I’m happy about that.
“There’s still a lot of work to do.”
Daish is now the longest serving manager at Stonebridge Road and Saturday’s home friendly against Leyton Orient is due to be played in his honour.
He added: “It’s not a testimonial, but I’m happy to be named as the longest serving manager at this club.
“There have been some ups and downs, some heartache but a lot of joy and I’m appreciative of all the people that have supported me.”
