Slade Green 2 v 2 Cobham

FA Cup Premliminary Round

SLADE Green ended the tie with nine men but managed to hang on for a replay against Cobham of the Combined Counties League.

They play again tonight (September 5).

Cobham made an early impact when their keeper's clearance was met by Green's Luke Morrish clearing header which looped goalwards.

Centre back Paul Gross lost his footing and Cobhams's Mark Knight took full advantage to put the visitors ahead.

But within 17 minutes Green were ahead themselves.

First Scott Thomas' left-wing cross found Jason Clews and a mis-timed tackle by Nicky Andrews sent the strike sprawling - Adam Morrish was the grateful recipient from the spot.

Green's second came moments later Terry Murphy's delightful chip had the home fans cheering the quick turnaround.

Things went wrong for Gree on the hour - Gross upended Knight for a yellow card while Clews was involved in an off the ball incident at the other end.

After consulting with his assistant, the referee showed Clews a straight red card.

From the free-kick awarded off the back of Gross' challenge on Knight, Cobham equalised through substitute Miles.

Green almost re-took the lead but Morrish and Murphy were guilty of missing chances and when Gross was shown a second yellow for stepping recklessly into a goalmouth melee, Green were happy to hold on to the replay.
