Welling 5 v 1 Yeading
Nationwide Conference South
AFTER the embarrassing first half performance and the eventual 4-2 defeat against Histon on Tuesday evening, Wings Boss Adrian Pennock made numerous changes to the starting line-up, writes James Underwood.
Chris Moore made way for Leon Solomon, for his first start of the season, new signing Martin Carthy replaced Matt Bodkin and the impressive Ellis Green took the place of Ronayne Benjamin.
It was a quiet first few minutes, the only effort on goal being a half chance from Che Stadhart.
However, it wouldn't be long before a lapse from the Welling defence gifted Yeading with the opening goal.
A flick-on from Adam Everitt found Jeff Goulding unmarked to prod home for his second of the season.
There was a controversial moment on 25 minutes when Nevin Saroya looked to have caught Danny Kedwell with his elbow as both players jumped for the ball.
Saroya was shown a yellow card for his challenge while Kedwell received treatment.
The Wings equalised three minutes later through captain Jamie Day.
Day hit a sublime free kick 30 yards out round the Ding wall into the bottom corner.
The only further opportunity in the first half fell to Des Boateng.
A through pass from Stadhart found Boateng who couldn't quite reach the ball to get enough on his shot.
The second half was a much livelier affair and the home crowd didn't have to wait long before Welling took the lead.
A quick throw by Joe Vines caught the Yeading defence napping, falling to Kedwell who slid his shot under Delroy Preddie in the Ding goal.
With the Wings already in front Yeading were dealt a further blow when Saroya was shown a second yellow for his trip on Kedwell, just four minutes into the second period.
Welling made it 3-1 just after the hour mark when Kedwell again involved in the action was brought down inside the box by Richard Goddard.
Kedwell stepped up and confidently slotted the ball home.
The Ding's only effort on goal in the second half came with 20 minutes remaining, a swift counter attack found Marvin Morgan one on one with keeper Jamie Turner.
Turner came to clear the ball but the striker took the ball out wide before coming back in and seeing his shot well saved by the Wings keeper.
Matt Bodkin found himself on the score sheet on 76 minutes when a high, long ball from John Guest found the midfielder who did well to hold off Danny Allen-Page before placing his shot under Preddie.
The impressive Ellis Green ended the afternoon in style to score his first in a Wings shirt.
A quick free kick from Day fell into the path of Green who fired his shot off the underside of the bar into the back of the net.
