Whyteleafe 1 v 3 Dartford
Ryman League Division One South
DARTS completed a Bank Holiday clean sweep and by doing so returned to the top of the table thanks to a win at Whyteleafe.
On a grassed but bumpy pitch, softened by a pre-match downpour Darts gave notice of their intent by taking a third-minute lead when Brendon Cass hit a 30-yarder at goal and Jay May was alert and well-placed to head home.
It was the usual Dartford stuff with Briggs and Hafner working well along the right and, as ever, Dave Martin causing havoc on the left. Whyteleafe weathered the storm however and gradually got into the game showing why they caused an upset at Maidstone two days earlier. Just after the half-hour Richard Williams headed them level from in front of goal.
They then had an escape when goalie Dean Rose lost control of the ball in a dive on the edge of the area.
After the break Darts rolled up their sleeves and gradually asserted themselves and a slick passing move five minutes into the half ended with Brendon Cass hitting home.
Then Dave Martin was fouled on the edge of the box but the free-kick was parried by Rose.
This was followed by a header just over the bar.
At the other end Richard Avery, playing his 100th Darts game, was in commanding mood and, with the rest of the defence - including reserves captain Danny White in for injured John Farley - was too good for the homesters.
With 20 minutes left May breeched the off-side trap, rounded the exposed Rose and insolently tapped home Darts' third.
