Cray Wanderers 0 v 0 Tooting & Mitcham United
Ryman League Division One South
Match Report from Daniel Harris
CRAY Wanderers dropped their first points of the season after being held to a goalless draw by 10-man Tooting and Mitcham on Bank Holiday Monday.
Manager Ian Jenkins made one change from the side which defeated Corinthian Casuals on Saturday with David Hall coming into the side for Lewis Wood who started on the bench.
Lee Bremner missed this match through suspension but will be available for Saturday's FA Cup tie at Walton Casuals.
The first half proved to be a keenly contested affair, although chances were at a premium.
The visitors created the first opening on nine minutes when Vernon Francis got on the end of a Jamie Findlay cross and headed just wide.
Wanderers right-back Matt Lee headed a Colin Luckett free-kick straight at Dave King before the best opportunity of the half, on 25 minutes, when veteran striker Gary Abbott saw his 20-yard volley superbly tipped over the bar.
Jamie Wood, who made his 300th appearance for Cray on Saturday, was denied by King with a header while at the other end Steve Northwood produced a good save to deny Findlay.
On the stroke of half-time the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Francis was sent-off for two bookable offences.
With a man extra Wanderers dominated the second half but they were unable to find a way through a resolute Terrors defence.
Ross Lover fired wide before J Wood was denied by a good stop from King.
Both Abbott and Hall had further chances for the home side who were to be indebted to goalkeeper Northwood as he made an excellent save to keep out an angled drive from Allan McLeod.
In a bid to secure all three points manager Ian Jenkins introduced Lewis Wood and Junior Baker.
Luckett came the closest to finding a winner with a shot from the edge of the area but in the end Cray had to be content wide a point.
