Bromley 2 v 1 Staines Town
Ryman League Premier Division
THE Lillywhites achieved the four-point target from the first two league games set by manager Mark Goldberg with an impressive win over a strong Staines, writes Patrick Harris.
Lining up 3-5-2 Bromley got off to an attacking start pushing Staines back but once the visitors settled they created the clearest chance with Mark Nwokeji shooting just wide.
On 20 minutes Bromley, in front of more than 400 fans, edged ahead when right wing-back Gary Drewett crossed for Nic McDonnell to volley home on the turn.
The Swans came right back at Bromley with Andy Walker having to make three fantastic saves.
McDonnell went close again while Andre Scarlet blazed over at the other end.
Staines had a spell on top with Jon McDonald's long throws causing problems and Walker once again had to make a great stop from Adam Thompson.
Bromley rallied late in the half and Barry Moore saw a shot saved by Shaun Allaway and McDonnell turned the ball just wide from a corner.
Right on half time Boot raced clear of The Swans defence only to be pulled back by Matt Flitter while in the act of shooting on goal.
The referee did not even book the defender and Junior Kadi blasted the free kick over the bar.
Goldberg changed to a 4-4-2 formation in the second half but while the players were trying to settle into the new shape former Bromley player Errol Telemaque equalised with a deflected 20-yard drive on 51 minutes.
From the kick off McDonnell and Boot combined and Boot fired just over.
The Lillywhites appeared shaken by the equaliser and pushed on looking to regain the lead.
On the hour the referee awarded a penalty after McDonnell was judged to have been tripped by keeper Allaway.
After lengthy protests when the visitor's custodian was booked McDonnell ballooned his spot kick over the bar.
Drewett had a shot from range go narrowly wide and also set up sub Alex Tiesse who went close with a header.
With 11 minutes left in the game the break through finally came when substitute Adrian Stone connected with a fantastic drive from 25 yards crashing the ball low into the corner of the net.
Staines had a couple of half chances late on, but Bromley held out and sealed a hard earned win.
