A NIGHTMARE second half condemned Welling to their first defeat of the new season.
Ian Simpemba opened the scoring for the title favourites Lewes before Danny Kedwell levelled from the spot.
But second half strikes from Paul Booth - a Welling transfer over the summer - Jean-Michel Sigere and Jamie Cade put Lewes out of reach.
Andrew Sam grabbed a stoppage time consolation goal for Adrian Pennock's men.
Welling travel to Eastleigh on Saturday before hosting Histon on Tuesday.
