BROMLEY maintained their perfect start to the season at Maidenhead on Saturday with two second half goals to give them maximum points from seven league games.
The visitors commenced the game in stylish fashion and Warren McBean shot straight at the Maidenhead goalkeeper after just one minute.
McBean then went close again on five minutes after Ryan Dolby squared a pass back to him but the striker fired over from just inside the area.
Paul Vines squandered a chance he made for himself by shooting wide after turning his marker before Tony Finn forced a good save out of keeper Steve Williams at the near post.
Finn’s 10th minute volley was deflected for a corner, from which the ball was laid back to Wes Daly.
He crossed to the far post where John Scarborough just failed to get a touch, which would certainly have led to a goal.
But gradually Maidenhead came back into the game and Ashley Smith broke clear only to blaze wildly over the bar before a penetrating run by McBean set up Vines whose shot on the run sailed over the crossbar.
As half-time approached, Wes Foderingham was quickly out to deny Kieron St Aimie after the defence had been slow to react.
A quick break down the left by Smith saw his pinpoint cross met by Daniel Brown and from just 10 yards out Brown somehow contrived to crash his effort wide of a gapping goal when it seemed easier to hit the target.
Jerrome Sobers made an excellent block to deny Brown and Foderingham did well to keep the scores level after Kieron Knight had dispossessed Dolby to allow himself a clear run at goal.
The second half was a much quieter affair than the first and after both sides had missed a couple of chances, Bromley broke the deadlock on 57 minutes.
Daly took a free-kick on the halfway line to Finn out wide, the winger laid it back to Daly who sent in a curling cross straight onto the head of McBean, who glanced his header wide of Williams from close range.
Maidenhead responded with Jack Bradshaw and Smith firing over from promising positions before another break by Smith saw Knight just fail to make contact with his accurate cross to the far post.
Nic McDonnell replaced McBean on 70 minutes and the new arrival was soon in the thick of things, winning the corner that led to Bromley’s second goal on 76 minutes.
From the deep kick, Sobers headed down into the path of Scarborough and his sweetly struck shot from 12 yards nestled into the far corner of the net beyond the outstretched hands of Williams.
The home side’s heads went down after this and Bromley comfortably and confidently played out the remaining minutes of the game.
In fact, they might have had another goal from Tutu Henriques whose long-range effort was saved by Williams.
The game ended on a sour note for Bromley when Finn suffered an injury after a very poor challenge from substitute Bobby Behzadi.
Mark Goldberg’s table-topping side are at home to St Albans on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
