LIAM Daish says he is trying to strengthen his forward line to ensure Ebbsfleet take their chances after his side were held 1-1 by Dartford yesterday.
The Fleet boss may be looking to take advantage of Football League clubs releasing players during the mad dash before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.
Apart from the 2-0 defeat to Dover, Fleet have scored in every game so far this season but Daish has already expressed concerns about his team not capitalising on the chances created and new additions may provide that elusive edge.
Although the manager did not reveal his targets, he indicated that new strikers were likely to arrive at Stonebridge Road soon.
He said: “I’ve spoken to about five players this week. “The timing of it is difficult with one just carrying a knock at the moment while another is waiting on an offer of league football but that decision has not been made on him but he’s looking to stay in the league.
“Another couple have been league players and one that has been a bit of a name in the game in the past but that it is still a little way off.”
And as football managers up and down England are currently wheeling and dealing more frequently than Del Boy and Arthur Daley combined, Daish admits he has his work cut out.
He explained: “Clubs are holding on to their players to see what kind of start they get before really making decisions on players if they are going to be for them longer term, so it’s a little bit a case of people keeping their cards close to their chest.
“Obviously when the transfer window does close it will affect us where people will have their squads in place and now they will be looking to get certain people out.”
While time is of the essence, it looks unlikely reinforcements will be arriving at Stonebridge Road as early as this week.
Daish said: “I don’t know about getting new players in as early as Monday, that might be difficult.
“We’re at the bare bones at the moment but it’s the timing of it.
“It’s getting the right one. I’ve spent all week trying to but it’s very difficult at the moment.”
And if the pressure of finding new players was not enough for the boss, Ebbsfleet are still searching for their first league home win of the new season with Braintree Town travelling to Kent on Monday.
Daish added: “It would be nice to get our first win at home.
“We’re not a million miles away to be fair, it’s just scoring goals when you’re on top. That’s the key.”
