Cray Wanderers are still waiting to get their first point of the new Ryman Premier League season, having ended their first week of action with two defeats and one abandoned game in which they held a two-goal lead.

After their opening day 1-0 defeat at Hornchurch, the Wands started in good style in their home match versus Carshalton Athletic on Wednesday night. Laurent Hamici and Lewis Perkins found the net to put Cray two goals ahead, but in the 53rd minute the game had to be called off in the torrential rain.

Cray went into their home match versus Tooting on Friday night with high hopes of continuing with the same fast-flowing football that had seen them outplay Carshalton.

The Wands started brightly but it was Tooting who grabbed the lead through Rob Haworth on 37 minutes.

Laurent Hamici levelled from the penalty-spot on 50 minutes after handball on the line by Hasim Deen.

Cray began to press, but were rocked when James Nicholls headed in from a corner-kick in the 66th minute.

Adam Cottrill equalised for Cray with ten minutes remaining, but the Wands were undone again by a far post header following a cross from the right, with Barry Stevens finding the target in the 84th minute.

Cray: King, Cottrill, Bentley (McCann 22), Day, Willy, Coleman, Lozano (Sawyer 86), Perkins (Whyte 86), Hamici, Phillips, Sterling. Subs not used: Cronin, Hammond.

Attendance: 254 Cray are away to Hastings United on Monday 30 August (3pm), and home to Harrow Borough next Saturday 4 September (3pm).
