DESPITE a tremendous pre-season, Bromley boss Mark Goldberg is refusing to set any lofty targets for the campaign ahead.

Bromley kick off with a home meeting with Dorchester Town on Saturday after bringing their pre-season to a close with a 1-0 victory over big-spending Crawley Town.

The Lillywhites also recorded victories against Gillingham, Millwall and Dagenham & Redbridge over the last few weeks but Goldberg isn’t reading too much into his side’s form.

He said: “We were delighted with the win on Saturday, but it’s important we carry the good organisation and the form into the season as it starts.

“Unfortunately we’ve been in the position before where we’ve had a good pre-season but didn’t start the season as well, so we’ve got to keep our feet firmly on the ground.

“When you start the league it becomes a very different proposition to pre-season games where teams aren’t going to sit off you, they’ll be trying to stop us playing.

“We’re not going to set any particular targets this year, we just want an improvement on last season.”

Despite not knowing much about Saturday’s opponents, Goldberg is expecting a tough test at the hands of Dorchester.

But he believes if his side play their way and keep their shape, they can pick up a good result and go on to have a better season than last.

He explained: “Everybody understands their responsibilities and what we expect of them.

“We’re going to concentrate on our game on Saturday and the way we want to play.”

Goldberg added: “We will look to impose our game on them but we’re expecting a tough initiation to our new league campaign.

“However, as long as we keep our momentum going then we expect this season to be an improvement on last year.”
