JAMIE Day took his Welling team to Kent League Holmesdale to continue preparations for the new season.

Although the hosts put in a spirited performance, the Wings cruised to another straight forward victory.

As early as the 11th minute Welling should have been awarded a penalty as Loick Pires was bundled over.

Pires then headed home a Ben Billings cross but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Tommy Whitnell put Welling ahead when he raced into the penalty area and struck home powerfully just inside the near post.

Whitnell came close again striking into the side netting soon after and Pires had another effort disallowed, again for offside, following Joe Healy’s flick on from Billings’ cross.

Lee Clarke burst through but his shot hit the outside of the post and Pires was again denied a blatant penalty when clearly fouled just before half time.

Second half replacement Andy Pugh came close twice, Whitnell also failed to hit the target and Day had a shot easily saved by Michael Holder as Welling pressed for a second.

Daryl Robson was denied by another offside flag and Healy struck over before the hosts fashioned a couple of chances, Jack Highwood shooting over and Budar Mohammed rounding Jack Giddens but being forced wide enough to thwart him.

The match was put to bed when Pugh was fed by Whitnell and although his effort came back off the post, Robson was on hand to finish.

Loui Fazakerley put the icing on the touch curling in a fine twenty yarder with the last kick of the game.
