MARK Goldberg is delighted by Bromley’s younger players after they staked a claim for regular first team football in Saturday’s victory over a Millwall XI.

Paul Vines gave the Lillywhites the perfect start by firing Bromley in front on seven minutes.

However, Millwall’s response was instant and they were soon back on terms through Ashley Grimes.

But Bromley restored their advantage after the break through Tony Finn as the Lillies completed a quick-fire hat-trick of wins over Football League opposition after recent victories against Gillingham and Dagenham.

Goldberg told News Shopper: “Pre-season continued well with a hard fought win against a young Millwall side all fighting for their rights to win contracts, so we knew they were going to be a big test for us.

“I’m also pleased with how our youngsters are showing their willingness to gain their place in our squad this season.

“More than anything, I’m delighted with the organisation of our side and the result is a real bonus for us.

“I’m also happy we are sticking to our principles with the way we play our football.

“We want to pass the ball and have a certain pattern of play and all of the players are responding well.

“There is a good team spirit and getting these results is a massive bonus.”

Goldberg admitted his side are still coming to terms with some big departures, notably Ryan Hall who last week joined Southend United.

He added: “We’ve lost Ryan Hall and Ashley Carew this year and we’ve brought in Tony Finn and Sam Butler, who are both capable of playing at a higher level and fitting into our new regime.

“Often in pre-season, it is a better test to play against opposition that are closer to the opposition we will be facing in the league.

“We will go into the Bognor game still wanting to put in a performance but the most important thing is we learn from every game.”
