CRAY Wanderers FC will face international opposition for the first time in their 150-year history when they entertain Guyana in a friendly.
Wands chairman Gary Hillman revealed the news on Friday at the club’s anniversary exhibition in the Bromley Museum.
The exhibition runs until June 26 and was attended by the mayor of Bromley and a television crew from ITV’s London Tonight.
It is just one of a series of events to celebrate the 150th birthday of the second oldest football club in the world, another of which is the forthcoming visit of Guyana.
Mr Hillman told News Shopper: “Guyana will be playing us at Bromley on August 8 and we were able to organise the game through a business associate.
“We signed Shawn Beveney a few years ago and he is a Guyana international and their captain.
“They usually have a big festival in London and we talked there and said let’s get it on.
“This is the first time Cray Wanderers have ever played an international team, so it promises to be a big occasion.”
Other highlights from the celebrations include a club ball on June 5, a return to the Crays for the first time in 40 years on July 3 for a game against Crockenhill and a pre-season match with Leyton Orient on July 14.
