VCD Athletic 1 v 0 Hythe Town
Kentish Observer Kent League
VCD Athletic won the first of a gruelling schedule of games which will see them play five league matches in nine days.
Terry King's second half own-goal gave the hosts three points despite boss Martin Ford making five changes to the team which reached the Kent Senior Trophy final.
He said: "We changed the side around quite a lot but the players who came in deserved their chance and after a sticky opening 20 minutes we got into the groove.
"Hythe would have been content with a point so we had to be patient and wait for a chance to come our way."
He said: "Thankfully we got the luck our play deserved with the own goal and it keeps us on target for the third place spot we're aiming for."
VCD travelled to Deal Town on Monday and face Sporting Bengal tonight.
On Saturday they visit Slade Green before visiting Herne Bay midweek.
Then it is all about the Kent Senior Trophy when VCD take on Tunbridge Wells at Welling United's ground on April 9.
