Thamesmead 1 v 0 VCD Ath.
Kentish Observer Kent League
VCD Athletic came back to earth with a bump following their FA Vase exploits in this dreadful league clash at Thamesmead.
Only 42 people turned out to watch the instantly forgetable match where, on a bumpy pitch, neat football was at a severe premium.
With the visitors parading new signing Duan Moncrief from Greenwich Borough and leaving out four of the players from the FA Vase match they struggled to find any kind of rhythm or form.
The only highlight came on 30 minutes when Mead's Pedro Knight scored the winning goal with a smart strike, beating Grant Wallis down low.
VCD improved with the introduction of burly centre forward Richard Dimmock and it was the striker who created and missed two glorious chances.
For Thamesmead, Lee Loveridge and Dean Kearly were in fine defensive form giving their team the base from which to hang on for all three points.
VCD boss Martin Ford said: "I am not a happy man. The Vase result looked like it had gone to a few of their heads.
"We lacked passion from the start and let Thamesmead dictate the game."
He added: "The game did not mean enough to my players, one or two of them think you can just turn up and stroll around.
"Thamesmead proved they wanted to win more than us but it was an awful match played by two awful teams."
