Yeading 1 v 0 Welling

Nationwide Conference South

THE Wings preparation for the FA Trophy visit to Woking suffered a blow last weekend after a frustrating defeat at Yeading.

Adrian Pennock's team take on the Nationwide Conference side for a place in the last eight knowing they need to sharpen their shooting boots.

Against Yeading the Wings missed countless chances and eventually came away with nothing.

Pennock said: "We battered them and just could not score.

"In the first half we were poor and conceded a shocking goal.

"But after the break we were camped in their half and we had chance after chance.

"We're just disappointed we could not put one in."

He added: "I'm a little bit concerned at it because if we want to be in the top five or six we have got to take these chances.

"They are not even half chances, they are very good chances and either their keeper has an outstanding day or we're missing sitters."

He said: "I think we need a little bit of luck in front of goal, we need one to go in off someone's knee or backside just to get us going.

"But to be honest I would more worried if we were not creating chances."

The trip to Woking, managed by Glen Cockerill, is a sign of Welling United's cup prowess although this will be their hardest test since the visit to Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup.

Pennock said: "It is going to be a big test for us. I have a lot of respect for Glen Cockerill and his team.

"We've had them watched and they're strong, well- organised and fit. The boys are looking forward to it."
