Deal Town 2 v 2 VCD Athletic (2-4 pens)

Kent Senior Trophy Quarter-Final

VCD Athletic overcame Deal Town to reach the semi-final of the Kent Senior Trophy.

Boss Martin Ford said: "It was always going to be a tough battle, the pitch was very heavy and difficult to play good football on.

"We battled well and despite taking a 2-0 lead I felt Deal Town would come back at us and to be fair they threw everything at us and we just held on.

"However, I really fancied us in the penalty shoot-out as we have some strong characters in the side and they wanted to take a spot kick."

VCD took a two-goal lead through Stuart Abbott and an Ashley Probets penalty.

Deal were back in the match thanks to a Dave Bathgate penalty and, with four minutes left, a Josh Davidson drive.

There was little to separate the sides during extra time although Lee Coburn and Abbott squandered good chances for the visitors.

Eventually the match came down to the lottery of penalties and successful conversions by Ashley and Clayton Probets, Mark Horan and substitute Steve Hogg were enough to send the travelling fans into delirium.
