Christmas can be a heavy period for clubs, playing so many games in such a short space of time and it's important to keep a squad fit during this spell.

The festivities can often play with a player's concentration and focus and I think this affected us against Dagenham and Redbridge.

The team which played were not fully focused on the game and this was evident in the performance.

Focusing on the job can also be a problem for referees.

If a referee is not focused on the game they could make mistakes which cost teams points.

Take for example the Boxing Day matches in the Premiership. Handballs from Milan Baros, Pascal Cygan, John Terry and Zat Knight were not spotted by the referees and they could have cost teams points they could ill afford to lose.

This is where the idea of video technology comes in.

It would mean if a referee didn't have a clear view of an incident, or was unsure on a decision, he could refer to the video replay for an answer.

There is, on the other hand, the negative side.

This technology would take away the human element of the game, and the line needs to be drawn somewhere.

After all, what would the fans have left to debate if it was brought in?

Looking forward to our next couple of games, we face a long trip to promotion chasing Exeter City, and then on the 14th, we go into the second round of the F.A. Trophy against Boreham Wood. Our next home game is on January 20th against local rivals Canvey Island.

I'd finally like to wish everyone a Happy New Year, and let's hope our season continues to go from strength to strength.

Liam Daish.
