Dover Athletic 0 v 2 Bromley
Westview Cup Round Four
BROMLEY needed extra time to progress in the Westview League Cup, this time with a good 2-0 win on the Kent coast against Ryman Division One side Dover Athletic.
The hosts looked full value for their high league position and made life difficult for George Wakeling's men.
Despite this the hosts rarely carved out clear-cut chances to trouble Bromley's number one Andy Walker.
While at the other end Dover's keeper Paul Hyde was also scarcely troubled until extra time when Bromley stepped up a gear and began to boss proceedings.
In the 90 minutes and after soaking up Dover pressure, Bromley hit the woodwork and had a shot cleared off the line.
Dover's best chance came right at the death when Walker had to be on top form to deny what looked a certain goal.
In a game of few chances extra time always seemed likely and it could have gone down to the lottery of penalties had it not been for a tactical masterstroke by Wakeling on the Bromley bench.
The introduction of Wade Falana halfway through the second half saw Bromley push three up front.
Despite Hyde saving superbly from Jones Awuah in the closing minutes of regulation play, the new attacking impetus came into its own at the start of extra time when Nic McDonnell reached a Falana flick-on to fire into the bottom corner of the host's goal.
Moments later it was 2-0 when Awuah was on hand on the goal line to nod in another Falana header.
The second period was a tepid affair and while Falana again went close the game petered out and took with it the interest of the sub-500 crowd.
This good, if unspectacular, win for Bromley in a largely forgettable game has earned them a place in the last eight of the Westview Cup and registered another clean sheet.
