Colliers Wood 2 v 3 VCD Athletic
FA Vase Second Round
VCD Athletic made history at the weekend by reaching the third round of the FA Vase.
They did it the hard way with a close finish at Colliers Wood of the Combined Counties League.
VCD boss Martin Ford said: "I am full of praise for the team and despite arriving only 15 minutes before the kick off because of traffic the lads were superb.
"We had done our homework on Colliers and we carried out our plan to perfection."
The first half was scorless but in the second 45 minutes VCD overran the static home defence.
VCD's Mark Greatorex opened the scoring on 65 minutes and added another moments later.
With 10 minutes left Coburn added a third to seemingly put the game beyond doubt.
But goals from Steve Griffiths and Freddie Fleming set up a tense finish before VCD could celebrate.
VCD now travel to Arundel in the next round on December 10.
This Saturday VCD return to Oakwood for the last time before the ground is redeveloped.
They are hosting Hythe Town in the Senior Trophy second round after the Kent County FA agreed the game could go ahead. Kick off: 1.30pm.
