BROMLEY ended a run of eight games without a win on Saturday when they overcame a very poor Weymouth side at Hayes Lane.
This victory was their first at home since 28 December when they beat Eastleigh 3-0.
Weymouth, who have only won four league games this season, look doomed to their second successive relegation having gained just 18 points from 32 matches played.
On a very bumpy and uneven playing surface, both teams found it hard going at times.
The Lillywhites got off to a perfect start when they took the lead in the fourth minute, as Ashley Carew was tripped in the area by full back Jamie McGuinnes. Carew got up to send a firm spot kick past Tim Sandercombe.
Weymouth responded with Stephen Reed shooting on the turn, but well wide of the intended target, before Bromley went further ahead after 22 minutes. A corner kick from the right was cleared as far as Ryan Hall some 35 yards out and his deep cross into the goalmouth was touched home by an unmarked Rob Gillman from close range.
The visitors nearly pulled one back on 40 minutes when the danger from a goalmouth scramble was cleared as far as Simon Radcliffe on the edge of the area, but his rasping volley was always rising and cleared the crossbar to safety.
It was rather one sided in the second period as most of the activity took place in the Weymouth half with the visitors offering very little in attack, seemingly running out of ideas when they approached the 18 yard box.
Carew stung the hands of the Weymouth keeper after 48 minutes and the custodian smothered Warren McBean’s rather weak effort after being set up by Steve Ferguson shortly afterwards.
Around the hour mark, Sandercombe twisted in midair to punch away Luke I’Anson’s curling shot from the left after the midfielder had cut in from the touchline.
Goal number three eventually arrived on 64 minutes when the official played a good advantage and allowed Mark Corneille to break up an attack before picking out I’Anson. The half-time substitute quickly lofted a pass over the defence for Richard Butler to run on to and finish with a fine shot past the exposed keeper.
Bromley completed the scoring on 71 minutes when Carew found McBean with a great through ball.
Just as it looked as if the centre forward had over run he stuck out his foot to divert a shot past the keeper for his 14th league goal of the season.
Gareth Williams made a good save from Matthew Groves a few minutes later in what was Weymouth’s only attack of the second half.
In the closing stages, Sandercombe punched an inswinging corner from Carew clear and Nicky Greene went close with a deflected shot as Bromley cruised to a comfortable victory.
