ANDY Pugh completed his loan spell with a hat-trick as Welling United stunned Woking with an away day five goal extravaganza .
Tommy Whitnell and Tony Finn also netted as the Wings overwhelmed their hosts in front of a noisy band of visiting fans.
Although they started brightly, the Cards made a poor fist of attempting to halt a run of defeats and were outplayed in every area on the pitch.
Charlie Mitten was the first goalkeeper to be called into action making an easy save from Woking centre forward Matthew Wright.
Sam Hurrell continued his recent outstanding form and a crude challenge by Ricky Anane should have been punished with a yellow card.
Nathaniel Penny was thwarted by a fine tackle by Loui Fazakerley and Wright headed wide under pressure from Graeme Andrews before Welling gave a warning of the dangers they could pose.
Pugh just failed to control a long pass from Jamie Day and Whitnell was foiled by a last ditch tackle by Aswad Thomas.
Fazakerley then twice came close, first hitting the post following good build up play between Carl Jenkinson and Whitnell, then drawing a fine save from Ross Worner.
Former Welling player Tony Sinclair was given the freedom of the penalty area from a corner but was unable to find the target with his header before the Wings went ahead.
Day’s long clearance was brilliantly controlled by Fazakerley and his cross was finished clinically by Pugh.
Another player who represented Welling last season, Moses Ademola, had the last opportunity of the first half but Mitten saved his low effort.
Welling kept Woking on the back foot from the start of the second half and Hurrell shot wide of the near post having been played in by Lee Clarke.
In the 55th minute the visitors doubled their lead courtesy of the same combination that produced the first.
When Fazakerley found Pugh he showed the composure and strength to hold off Thomas before rounding Worner and rolling the ball into the empty net.
Mitten made a great save to push Wright’s header over the bar before Welling made the game safe with their third goal.
Hurrell again left the hapless Anane in his wake and he pulled the ball back for Whitnell.
Although Worner made a desperate attempt to keep the ball out he could only touch the ball onto the post and watch in anguish as the ball rebounded in.
Despite a double substitution, Woking’s woes were soon worsened when Whitnell was clipped in the penalty area by Thomas and a spot kick was awarded.
Normal penalty ace Clarke demonstrated the team spirit in the Welling team by allowing Pugh to take it to complete his hat-trick.
He duly converted sending Worner the wrong way.
As Welling relaxed Woking substitute Joe McNerney had a couple of chances first heading weakly at Mitten and then shooting wide.
Hurrell again left Anane on his backside before shooting wide and after Clarke had freed Michale Bakare, Pugh was only stopped by an outstanding save by Worner.
Welling continued to play their football to the end and were rewarded with a fifth goal in the 89th minute.
An expansive team move involving Dean Cracknell, Michael Deane and Bakare produced an opportunity for Pugh to add to his tally.
Despite his effort coming back off the post, Tony Finn was alert enough to collect the loose ball and dribble into the net for his first Welling league goal.
Welling United: Mitten, Jenkinson, Deane, Day, Andrews, Parkinson, Fazakerley (Finn 75), Clarke (Cracknell 85), Whitnell, Pugh, Hurrell (Bakare 81). Subs not used: Sambrook, Cutler.
