BROMLEY assistant boss Hayden Bird believes Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Dorchester was a more than useful result for the Hayes Lane outfit.

The Lillywhites are 10th in the table following the long trip to Dorset, but still only three points behind Chelmsford City in the final play-off spot.

Bird said: “I think it was a good point, a point won as a opposed to two points lost.

”While we went into the game looking to win, and maybe even expecting to win, the circumstances during the 90 minutes contributed in us drawing the match as opposed to getting three points.

“For example, we lost two key players in Salifou Ibrahima and Harrison Dunk and it definitely disrupted our shape and fluidity.

“As the game went on, it became more about being organised and making sure we came away with something.

“Warren McBean had a great opportunity to give us the three points, which unfortunately he missed, but the performances of the likes of Rob Gillman, Jerrome Sobers and Nicky Greene were real positives for us.

“While normally the forwards tend to get the applause, the guys at the back were excellent and were major factors in us keeping a clean sheet on Saturday.”

Bird added: “Having won the point at Dorchester, I think the point will become a important one if we can win our next two home games.

“We need to go into the Staines game and quite simply win.

“Staines are an attacking side who like to get the ball forward, so I’m expecting an open contest, with both sides looking to take maximum points.”
