BROMLEY’S interest in this season’s London Senior Cup came to an end at Hayes Lane on Tuesday evening as Met Police went through on penalties.
In a poor game, the meagre crowd of 120 deserved a lot better than what was served up.
Bromley opened the scoring in the 18th minute when a mix-up on the halfway line allowed Ryan Hall to combine with Phil Ruggles before playing a one-two with Ramon Calliste for Ruggles to calmly chip the outcoming goalkeeper.
It might have been two on 27 minutes but keeper Mo Mann did well to twist in mid-air to deny Ruggles.
The Police levelled four minutes before the interval.
Bromley failed to clear their lines and centre half Nicky Humphrey had a free shot from close range to find the net.
In the second half Bromley did not register a single shot on target and it was the visitors who could, and should, have had the game wrapped up at the start and finish of the half.
A 49th minute cross from the right bounced off the top of the bar and Paul Honey shot over following a flowing movement involving five players a few minutes later.
Bromley were reduced to 10-men on 77 minutes when substitute Salifou Ibrahima was shown a straight red card after reacting to a bad tackle from behind by Rob Smith.
The visitors finished strongly as Michael Cobden squeezed a shot just past the post on 85 minutes and then Laurent Hamici twice shooting wide from the edge of the penalty area.
Lillies keeper Gareth Williams did well to punch away a deep cross under pressure from two Met Police forwards in stoppage time.
Williams saved Cobden’s half volley at the second attempt in extra-time before Mann denied Hall at the other end.
Steve Ferguson and Ashley Carew went close before Calliste was denied by a timely-tackle from Steve Sutherland as Bromley at long last began to look interested in the proceedings.
But it was too good to be true as the second period of the extra half hour followed a similar pattern to that of the second 45 minutes, with Harrison Dunk clearing off the line for Bromley on in the final seconds.
Metropolitan Police converted all their five penalties, while Mo Mann saved Bromley’s fourth spot kick to send the Lillies crashing out.
Bromley: Williams, I’Anson (Dunk 63), Dolby, Greene, Henriques, Gillman, Ferguson, Calliste, Ruggles (Carew 85) Hall, Daly (Ibrahima 46). Subs not used: Manning, McBean. Att: 120.
