A COMPETITION to discover who is the best one-on-one footballer will be held in Catford next month.
The Goal2Goal tournament will take place on August 9 at the Powerleague Centre and aims to find out who is the best individual player out there one-on-one with a ball, with a two touch-seven second concept.
Organisers G2G say they want to showcase players who otherwise wouldn’t get the opportunity to display their skills and the event will be filmed by Sky Sports, who will broadcast it on their ‘Sport Nation’ show in September.
G2G believe this is an exciting and unique new concept, which will challenge the face of football and all who play this beautiful game.
This is the first ever one v one contest launched in the U.K and a G2G spokesman said: “We can give players real hope here.
“There is a fine line between getting spotted and not getting spotted, a fine line between making it and not making it in team football. We can change that perception.
“Players will not have to play in a team game of football to try to get spotted in the future.
“Talent scouts will not have to travel the country going to team games searching out players, now they can choose to be more selective in the games they go to watch.
“We will give them another option, bringing individual talent to them.
“In this way, we can change lives, make a difference and give players hope all for the better.”
He added: “We are hoping to show the youth there is a better way instead of them picking up the knife or gun to slay.
“This will be a momentous occasion, so if you are coming for the spectacle of the event, or with the family, it's all happening down in Catford.
“We will make history on the August 9 and we do hope to see you all there to make history with us.”
