London Corinthians 1-5 Ebbsfleet United Ladies
FLEET Ladies cruised through to the first round proper of the Women’s FA Cup after probably playing their best football in the competition so far, producing a strong team performance which left the opposition chasing the game.
After a disappointing start where the Fleet didn’t get into the contest as quickly as manager Shaun Edwards would have expected, a lack of focus allowed the away team to capitalise on a early long ball from midfield.
Corinthians’ quick striker pounced upon the pass and rounded goalkeeper Faye Baker to slot home.
Fleet regrouped, focussed and took the early wake-up call seriously enough to then totally dominate the first half.
They began to play some great attacking football and passed it around very comfortably as a team to create chances. ] Midfielder Kayleigh Weeding opened their account as she took advantage of a great cross coming in from the right side, controlled the ball and fired into the net with her left foot at a tight angle.
After further consistent pressure, midfielder Kaye Forster opened her scoring account for the Fleet as she followed up a rebound and coolly headed over the keeper.
Fleet rounded off a fine half for the team with another goal from midfield as Hannah Gilmour struck an effort sweetly from her central midfield position, which flew into the top of the net.
The ladies continued moving forward in the second half and attacked the London goal with ease.
Two further goals were added.
Striker Mel Bishop finishing with quality from outside the box by giving the keeper no chance, and the scoring spree was finished with an own goal forced by a Fleet corner.
Ebbsfleet: Baker, Upton, Pattenden, Spry, Wipfler (Hill), Grinyer (Teague), Gilmour, Philpott, Bishop, Forster, Weeding.
