THE first round of the Gordon Charity Cup took place on Saturday and holders Viewpoint were making a strong effort to retain the trophy when they visited AFC Welsh Tavern Saturday.

Viewpoint were 5-0 up by half-time and eventually ran out 12-1 winners.

Lee Biggs got the lone goal for Tavern, but Viewpoint played some scintillating football to score at regular intervals through Karl Hotchkiss (4), Dave Goodwin (2), Paul Jackson (2) and Toby Johnson, Martin Brown, Damien Blowers and Aaron Brown.

Viewpoint Reserves were at home to AFC Welsh Tavern’s second string at the AEI ground and Viewpoint trailed 1-0 at the break to a Dave Collard goal.

Steven Coyne drew them level early in the second period before a Tommy Foreman strike gave them the lead for the first time.

Tavern were back on through Allan King, but a decisive third goal for Viewpoint Reserves by Coyne wrapped up the tie at 3-2.

A young Stone C & I side had the bad luck of being drawn against Premier Division The Old Prince of Orange, but the Division One side held out the Prince team until the 55th minute when livewire striker Delroy Samuels scored the only goal of the game.

Bean played host to the Guru Nanak Reserve side at the Glentworth Club, Dartford.

In a low scoring game, Guru held a 2-0 lead at the interval following two bad mistakes by the Bean keeper, which were both capitalised on by Hardev Dale and Armadip Singh.

Bean’s defence played better in the second half and prevented Guru from adding to their tally, but they unable to muster a reply at the other end and slipped to a 2-0 reverse.

There was no shortage of goal action in some of the other ties.

Matt Taylor (2), Harry Ring (2), Lee Halfpenney, Ben Cable and Sam Driscoll were all on target for Meopham in their 7-0 triumph at Oakfield.

Division Two team Earl Grey took on Division One outfit Craggs Farm reserves at Kings Farm and they went in level 0-0 at half-time.

Earl Grey’s veteran Garry Aldous showed how it should be done in the second period by grabbing a hat-trick and solo strikes by Dean Gibbons, Nathan Harpum and Aaron Spencer sealed a 6-0 victory.

Rob Bradbury produced a brilliant opening goal to put Ash Green in front at Culverstone United, but the hosts hit back through Dave Morris (2) and Luke Vint to wrap up a 3-1 success.

Another high scoring game was played at the Knockhall Road ground of FC Stone, who entertained Joydens Wood.

The hosts were 4-0 to the good by the break and eventually ran out 7-0 victors thanks to Chris Rains (4), Kelvin Wheeler (2) and Darren Newsome .

Fleetway Printers and Swan Valley were locked at 5-5 after 90 minutes in a topsy-turvy encounter.

Premier Division Swan took an early 2-0 advantage, but it was Division Tow Fleetway who held a 3-2 lead at the interval.

In a cracking game of 14 goals by the end of extra-time, it was Swan who emerged as eventual 9-5 winners.

Their scorers were Graham Runham (4), Chris Manktelow (2), Steve Baker, James Millen and Danny Vigors, while Fleetway responded through Darren Simms (3) and Malcolm Collins (2).

Woodlands Athletic were another team to net seven times in their home encounter with Real Man of Kent.

Darren Gowler led the way with five of his side’s efforts to go with solo contributions from Dan Gibbs and Karl Daly.

Real Man did hit a single consolation in reply, but it was Woodlands who deservedly eased through to the next stage 7-1.

The Rising Eagles were at home to AZ 82 at Kings Farm and in a close first half, Eagles just held a narrow 2-1 lead.

Tony Uwanogho scored for AZ 82, but it was Eagles who piled on the pressure in the second half and their hard work paid off as they ran out 8-1 winners.

Josh Taylor nabbed a fine hat-trick, assisted by goals from Ben Giles, Nick Donaldson, Paul Adams, Marc Milton and an own goal.

In the only Premier Division match of the weekend, leaders Craggs Farm continued their impressive start to the campaign with a 4-0 home triumph over Horton Kirby at the AEI ground.

Dimitri Blowers opened the scoring in the first half and they were only prevented to adding to this by the Kirby keeper, who was having an outstanding game, making numerous saves from goal-bound shots.

However, there was nothing even he could do to prevent Elijah Eastwood, Jason Loft and Craig Nightingale finding the net in the second period as Farm’s dominance was finally rewarded.

NK Aces hit 10 goals without reply against Waterloo in Division One.

Paul Sandhu top scored with four, Bobby Kyla conjured up a hat-trick and Jamie Hoyle, Dean Mcpherson and James Barker completed the rout to move Aces into fourth place.
