Bromley's promotion hopes hit the buffers last week when they managed only one point and no goals from two Ryman League One South Division home games.

The Lillywhites' superb 15-match unbeaten run went during midweek with a disastrous 1-0 home defeat against third-bottom Croydon Athletic.

Jon Waite was outstanding in central defence for Athletic but Bromley's inability to hit the net cost them dearly, as it did against fellow promotion hopefuls Windsor & Eton on Saturday.

The one bright spot for Bromley was the brief appearance of Nigel Pearce, who was only on the pitch for seven minutes. But the youth team player did enough in that time to indicate that more first team opportunities will come his way during the remainder of the season.

The Plumstead-based player ran into space, harassed Windsor's defenders and increased the tempo and urgency in the team as they were held to their 12th draw of the season, dropping to eighth place in the table.

Bromley thought they had valid claims for two first-half penalties, but referee Beadle turned both down.

The first, after 18 minutes, came when Leon Townley's left foot made contact with Kirk Watts inside the penalty area, while the second came five minutes later when Townley appeared to use his hands inside the penalty area.

Harney then produced a magical piece of skill after 53 minutes, which deserved a goal. Winning the ball 20 yards inside his own half, he took the ball into the Windsor half and beat a couple of defenders before continuing his run into the Royalists' penalty box.

This Ryan Giggs-type run would have been the goal of the season had he found the back of the net but, unfortunately for Harney and Bromley, Bunting spoiled the fun by blocking Harney's shot with his legs.

* Bromley, who were entertaining league leaders Carshalton Athletic as we went to press last night, travel to Banstead Athletic on Saturday ahead of next Tuesday's trip to Walton & Hersham.
