Dartford finished their pre-season campaign with a defeat on Saturday after losing to Norwich City at Princes Park.
Despite a strong start, Tony Burman’s side fell behind on 33 minutes when a long pass eluded Darts' keeper Deren Ibrahim allowing Carlton Morris to tap in for the Canaries.
The home side continued to play positively into the second half with winger Luke Wanadio proving a nuisance for the Championship side's defence.
It was Wanadio who earned Dartford a penalty on 48 minutes but the Darts failed to capitalise when Andy Pugh's spot-kick was saved by Aston Oxborough.
Norwich were resilient and sealed the win on 73 minutes when Sergi Canos' curled effort with the outside of his boot nestled in to the top corner.
Although his side came away with a defeat, there were plenty of positives for Burman.
He said: "I think we have played some good football and made some good chances. We needed to score the penalty but overall it was a great workout for us.
"It is the last time to say that the result does not really matter because from now on it certainly does matter.
“The guys have worked really hard in pre-season and I am pleased with the level of fitness we have got."
The Dartford manager also praised Wanadio for his performance during the friendly: "He has come in and he works hard and I think he will be a good asset for the squad."
One of the frustrations for Burman in the close season has been trying to sign a new striker, with Saturday's friendly allowing him to experiment with using both Danny Harris and Ryan Hayes as forwards in case a transfer does not go through.
"We had to have a look at things,” the boss added.
“We have signed two players with pace and that gives us an option. Ryan gives us a lot of quality on the ball and it might be that he plays out wide or he comes in behind the front one or two.
"I am pleased with where we are at the moment. We are still missing that elusive big striker but we are still talking to people and maybe that will happen before Saturday."
