Promotion chasing League one Carlisle showed the clinical finishing ability to beat Vanarama National relegation battlers Welling United.
Although the 5-0 final scoreline appeared harsh, there was no doubt that the full time Cumbrians had the superior quality and approached the game in the right way to ensure their place in the F.A. Cup third round.
In the opening minutes, Carlisle showed their intent with a fast start.
Less than a minute had elapsed when Charlie Wyke headed a long ball just beyond the far post.
Alexander McQueen was then given a sight of goal but shot high and wide from the edge of the penalty area.
Antony Sweeney waa next to try his luck but was thwarted by a good save from Michael McEntegart.
Just as it appeared that Welling had weathered the storm, Jason Kennedy caught Kieron St. Aimie in possession sending Jabo Ibhere away and his perfect pass allowed Wyke to place a shot beyond McEntegart and inside the far post.
Wyke had another opportunity but his shot was saved comfortably by McEntegart.
George Porter and Ricky Wellard combined well to find St. Aimie and his lay back allowed Michael Bakare to curl a left footer wide of the post.
Porter then had a shout for a penalty area when going down under a two handed shove from Mark Ellis but referee, Simon Hooper must have had better days and failed to give anything
On the stroke of half time, more poor refereeing cost Welling. Apart from a clear foul that resulted in McEntegart being bundled into the net, Sweeney diverted a shot from Ibehre into the goal via both hands.
Two more shocking decisions went against Welling early in the second period. First Ibehre went down under a nothing challenge from Zac Fagan and a penalty was awarded. Danny Grainger stepped up to take the penalty but McEntegart read it and made a fine save.Ben Jefford was first to the rebound and cleared up.
Then McQueen tripped Bakare in the other penalty area but the referee failed to award a blatant penalty.
McEntegart made a good save from Alex Gilliead as Carlisle continued to press.
Sweeney fired a free kick over before being involved in the next big talking point. Feeding onto Wyke's nod on, he burst into the area and went down theatrically when challenged by Harry Osborne. There appeared to be nothing in it but the referee thought otherwise and awarded another Carlisle penalty.
Once again, Grainger stepped up and although McEntegart again guessed correctly, the spot kick was hit powerfully into the top corner.
Three became four after seventy minutes when McEntegart saved from Gilliead but Wyke was first to the rebound to tap home.
To their credit, Welling did not lie down and Barney Williams' thrilling run and cross was just too far ahead of Bakare for a far post finish.
Michael Chambers then attempted to find substitute Sahr Kabba close in, but he had strayed offside.
Kabba was involved again soon after but was eased off balance by Michael Raynes, and was unable to hit the target.
Corne deceived Carlisle goalkeeper Dan Hanford with a free kick from the left wing only to see it come back off the far post.
Carlisle were determined to have the last word however, and Wyke completed his hat-trick when tucking home from close range following Patrick Brough's ball in.
It was almost six deep in injury time but Kennedy's shot came back off the post and Brough's follow up was blocked by Williams.
