Danielle Turner bagged a double as Everton Ladies recorded a 4-1 victory over a stubborn Millwall Lionesses side at the Select Security Stadium on Sunday.
The hosts took the lead in the eighth minute after Turner’s run into the area was halted illegally by Frankie Strugnell.
Referee Michael Hanley pointed to the penalty spot and Paige Williams sent the resulting spot kick high into the Millwall net.
Ten minutes later the visitors appealed for a penalty of their own for handball but Mr Hanley waved it away, though they didn’t have to wait too long for a leveller.
It arrived on 35 minutes, Ashlee Hincks turning her marker in the penalty area before firing low beyond Kirstie Levell.
Parity lasted just three minutes, though, Turner tapping home Holinshead’s cross – and it didn’t take Everton to get back into their stride after the break.
Simone Magill intercepted a loose back-pass in the 54th minute before poking beyond Sarah Quantrill from a tight angle.
There was concern for Danielle Carlton, who left the field in a stretcher midway through the second period, and Turner compounded Millwall’s misery on 84 minutes when she headed home from 12 yards to complete the scoring.
