Bromley eased their way to the 1st Round Proper of the FA Trophy, at Hayes lane on Tuesday evening, with a three-goal victory over Tonbridge Angels in the 3rd Qualifying Round Replay.
Having played out a goalless draw on Saturday, Bromley were gifted an early lead in the 5th minute when former Bromley defender Jerrome Sobers put through his own goal from Louis Dennis’s cross from the left.
As in the first game, Tonbridge enjoyed plenty of possession but lacked penetration in front of goal and, as a result, Bromley’s goalkeeper, Seb Brown – back in the side following a one-match suspension – had a reasonably quiet game.
He did, however, do well to get down to save Tom Parkinson’s header from a free-kick in the 13th minute.
Jordan Robertson squandered two good chances to increase the hosts' lead, whilw defender Laurence Ball did well to dispossess Dennis when the winger was through on goal.
Bromley continued to press forward with Robertson and Danny Waldren both going close, before Robertson missed an open goal on the stroke of half-time.
The second half was a scrappy affair with Brown not being unduly troubled, while Bromley’s chances seemed to dry up.
But in the 68th minute the fight was knocked out of Tonbridge when Chris Piper brought down Moses Ademola to concede a penalty, which Ademola took to send goalkeeper Tom Hadler the wrong way.
Six minutes later the game was over as a contest, as substitute, Jamie Slabber, arrived at the far post with the best goal of the game. Ali Fuseini played the ball into Dennis, he rounded his marker to cross to Slabber who stabbed home from an awkward angle to make the score 3-0.
Hadler parried Adam Birchall’s rather tame shot, before a defender cleared off the line with nine minutes remaining; whilst Alex Teniola blazed wide from a good position at the other end.
In the last minute, Birchall was denied a goal by a great save from Hadler, the goalkeeper leaping high to tip around the post the substitute’s volley.
Bromley: Brown, Udoji, Anderson, Fuseini, Swaine, Holland, Joseph-Dubois (Scannell, 18), Waldren, Robertson (Slabber, 64), Ademola (Birchall, 74), Dennis. Subs not used: Rodgers, Prestedge
